Q&A

Q1Why do freshmen have to live on campus?
A1The experience of living etiquette and the development for personality and education play very important roles in the service industry and influence future abilities in the service section; therefore, we attach great importance to daily-life education within the entire study plan. We decided to establish the residence rule for all new students in general and require them to comply with dormitory conventions to help them cultivate a professional attitude and develop good habits so that our graduates will perform outstandingly and with self-discipline in their chosen profession. Relevant provisions with detailed instructions can be found in the Enrollment Brochure and Freshmen Registration Notice. Freshmen should definitely read these to learn more about the rules before and after admission.

Q2Why is there no 24-hour study room in the Qinpu Building?
A2Study rooms in the Qinpu Building are open from 9:00 to 22:00 for all the teachers and students to use. If a large group (over 25 people) wants to use a study room, please contact Mr. Xia by dialing extension 1324# of the Student Assistance Section in advance. During midterms and final exams, we will make a special announcement about extending the study rooms’ operating hours.

Q3Why are slippers not allowed to be placed at the door of the dorm rooms?
A3This habit is inconvenient for emergency exits in the case a natural disaster occurs, does not look tidy, and is not ideal for environmental sanitation.

Q4Why is there a water cooler but no cooking room in the dormitory?
A4This is to maintain the safety and environmental quality of the school’s dormitory, and no private appliances are allowed for fear ooverloading the power supply, which could trigger electrical fires and will affect the safety of thousands of teachers and students in residence. Therefore, cooking is  not allowed in the dorms. The school’s dining hall offers meals for teachers and students, and there are also some canteens and stores nearby, which are convenient for having quick meals.

Q5 Why are you not allowed to wear slippers when you go out?
A5Please dress appropriately before leaving the dorms. Slippers and flip-flops are appropriate to wear in indoor spaces, but not for wearing out in public spaces; wearing sandals in public is not the demeanor that our college students should have.

Q6Why can’t mail parcels be sent directly sent to the dorms?
A6 Thanks to coordination between the department, post office and school clerical room, student dormitories have been receiving mail parcels since March 15, 2000.

Q7 Why does the school have dress code requirements?
A7 First, in our hopes to train professionals for the restaurant and tourism fields, our school pays great attention to the professionalism observed in restaurants and the tourism field and the awareness and bearings that employees in those areas should have. After graduating, most students engage in service work for restaurants and tourism, and the university’s dress code makes it natural for students to have a good attitude toward dress etiquette, which also results in our graduates gaining more opportunities than others in these industries.
Furthermore, internationalization is the developing trend for the future of every industry. Even Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, which enjoys a world fame in the hospitality industry, makes rules related to appearance and dressing. To enable students to understand the characteristics of our school, we have clear statements about relevant dressing, appearance management and competition approaches that can be found in the Enrollment Brochure and various life education conventions, which are signed by students and their parents for confirmation. On the other hand, for students who break these rules even after the constant announcements and information released during their stay at school, hopefully they can be persuaded; otherwise, we will deal with them according to school rules. We take education and care as starting points for professionalism and expect students to develop good dressing habits and courtesy manners to lay the foundation for a good life education so that they are able to meet international standards in the future.

Q8Why aren’t overhead lights turned on in the student dormitory after bedtime?
A8take into consideration students who want to sleep. As a building of group living, the student dormitory will turn on table lamps instead of the overhead lights 22:30 at night, while the time for the overhead lights can be prolonged to 00:00 one week before and the week of midterms and final exams for a total of 4 weeks. Furthermore, there are two seminar rooms and one saloon on the first floor  available for students to use, and we welcome students to make better use of them.

Q9Why do we have to wear uniforms when at school even when we have no lessons?
A9 Day Division students can wear any casual or sports clothing on campus after 17:20 in the afternoon, but are not allowed to enter teaching areas. If there are courses going on in the nighttime, which means it is still school time, students attending those classes should be appropriately dressed in their uniforms to meet the requirements of our professional dress code.

Q10Why aren’t 24-hour services for hot water and air conditioning offered in the dormitory?
A10 Based on energy-saving and cost considerations, hot water and air conditioning cannot be available all day.

Q11We are adults, why does our request for “sleep out” leave have to be communicated with our parents?
A11Adult as students are, we have a responsibility to parents to take care of their children, so we are duty-bound to shoulder that task of looking after and protecting students, and informing parents of “sleep outs” is based on our consideration for students’ safety.

Q12 Is it possible to place a refrigerator in the dormitory for students’ use?
A12In the 1001 semester, we purchased a large fridge for each dormitory building to use.

Q13:?Is there a similarly caring dormitory for injured or disabled students to use?
A13We have always been concerned for injured and disabled students not only living in the four-people bedrooms but also climbing up to the upper berth, so we have respectively planned and tendered two dormitories to establish said caring rooms since the 1001 semester, and they will begin to be used at the beginning of the 1002 semester.

Q14 Will electric charges for air conditioning in the school dormitory be paid at students’ own expense?
A14 Electric charges for air conditioning have not been included in the accommodation costs since the school’s opening. To correspond to environmental policies to save energy and reduce carbon emissions, the system is expected to be changed to an insert card with a stored value for users to spend on air conditioning, to start in the 1011 semester.

Q15 When can I apply for an empty bed? Is it possible to publish them earlier?
A15 Students’ registration has been announced to begin operation two months prior to the beginning of the 1001 semester, and admission status will be published one month in advance. Furthermore, the list for rooms reserved for foreign students may be released two weeks before the term begins. In addition, we will coordinate with the International Affairs Office for earlier confirmation in case of vacancies.

Q16 Is there an evening roll call in the dormitory? Can it be changed to a roll call in the bedroom
A16Because boarding students complained that it was too troublesome to stand up for the evening roll call, it has been changed to just a roll call in the bedroom by floor seniors.

Q17 Why is there no room for drying clothes in the Jincheng Building? Can one be established?
A17One room for drying clothes was established on each floor of the Jincheng Building in the 1001 semester, and they began to be used in the 1002 semester. Please, you are welcome to make more use of them.

Q18Sometimes previous high school students attending universities near Kaohsiung come to visit during holidays, is it possible for them to stay overnight in the dorms?
A18For the sake of privacy, the property, and the safety of our boarding students and due to the unknown moral status of outside guests, boarders are still forbidden from bringing friends and relatives to the dormitory.

Q19Sometimes the part-time students on duty at the dormitory service desk are bad-tempered; can they be required to improve their attitude?
A19 All dormitory cadres or part-time students are selected from amongst the boarders, who are still students that also need guidance and tutoring from teachers, so please forgive their impoliteness. The Office of Student Affairs shall constantly require training of service responsibilities and work duties for them to improve the quality of dormitory service.

Q20We are college students, so why should there be access control? The door closes too early; can it remain open until 24:00?
A20 When making such decisions, we take security and health into consideration. There is labor education at 6:30 every morning, and our school is located in a remote place, so the door closes at 22:30 on regular days  and at 22:00 on holidays.

Q21Why can’t the grass be walked on?
A21The common expectation we have and the responsibility of both teachers and students are to afforest and beautify our campus. Currently, the beautiful green turf is due to the daily efforts from our gardening classes. Expect for scheduled and university held activities, please join our efforts to take care of the grass; don’t trample it. We can enjoy and approach it, but do not deliberately trample on it.

Q22 Why it is necessary to pledge our photo IDs when “borrowing the bedroom key”?
A22There is a computer system in the Qinpu Building to check ones who is and is not currently in the dormitories. If student are allowed to borrow the key without strict control, this will cause flaws in the security, and if some roommate loses his/her belongings, we would not be able to figure out the truth.

Q23How do I deal with the postponed military service or subsection 2 of the active duty calling of the reservist section?
A23In addition to filling out the Students’ Military Service Questionnaire attached to the Notice for Freshmen Registration, new students shall add copies of the front and back of their ID cards for each piece. Male students who have finished military service need to check and attach a photocopy of their discharge papers and then submit them to the personal counseling section of the Student Affairs Office. Finally, go to the system for school affairs and information for students → school affairs and information → choose the option to fill in military service information of male students, and it will be finished.

Q24If students for any reason are unable to graduate, then how can I apply for deferment of military service?
A24If study is delayed and undergraduates must conduct a deferment of military service, please go at the beginning of each term to the system for school affairs and information for students → school affairs and information → choose the option to fill in military service information of male students. Then list papers and attach them to the receipt as proof for credit payment fees, and submit them to the personal counseling section of the Student Affairs Office; thus it will be finished.

Q25Is it possible to modify my conduct score if the semester has already ended?
A25Your conduct score includes asking for leave, rewards and punishment, absence from roll call, doing good works to offset improper behaviors, etc.; it is the standard of students’ campus lifestyle, behavior and study habits.
We specifically make rules for students about asking for leave, ways to reward and punish, implementation main points for doing good works to offset improper behaviors, etc. to safely manage the campus and student life.
During the semester, students can go into the online system at any time to check the conduct scores; if any problem is found, students can also consult undertakers of the personal counseling section during working hours.
Conduct performance and academic achievement scores are settled each term to maintain the overall system and its fairness.

Q26  Is it possible to do good works to offset improper behavior if the semester has already ended?
A26 Doing good works to offset improper behavior is a specially designed rule to give students an opportunity to straighten up. The condition of offsetting improper behavior is part of conduct credits, and every conduct score is concluded at the end of the respective term in order to maintain the overall system and its fairness; therefore, the score of good works to offset improper behavior shall also be concluded within the same respective term. Teachers shall encourage and guide students not to miss the time limit for offsetting improper behavior.

Q27  How is the situation dealt with if someone has a different opinion about the recorded rewards and punishment of students?

Q28 What can I do if there is a problem with my student leave information?
A28Students can check leave information online through the personal counseling information system. If any problem is found, first view the leave records and the accuracy of the application procedure, such as whether the date of leave and classes are correct, whether the teachers’ permission for leave is signed, or whether the leave application has been submitted, etc. If there is no error, please contact undertakers of the personal counseling section in person or by dialing school extension 1322# for further information so that you can timely remove doubts about leave. If the deadline was missed or the regulations were not followed, students have to shoulder the responsibility themselves.

Q29What can I do if there is a problem with the roll call (absenteeism, coming late and leaving early, dressing etiquette)?
A29First, if information about absenteeism, coming late and leaving early, dressing etiquette, etc. is recorded, students should first honestly view their own situation in class at that time. Each course teacher can set their own requirements about the standards for coming late and leaving early, as well as dressing etiquette. According to the regulated requirements for the school’s professional learning environment, students must wear proper clothes to facilitate teachers’ teaching quality control.
Second, if a mistake is found regarding information about absenteeism, coming late and leaving early, or dressing etiquette, students must verify and clearly explain their reasons to the teacher in the next class and ask the teacher to modify the information in the system.
Third, if the following class time has already passed because of occasional different situations about the courses teachers taught and the number of students, then it is too late for teachers to modify the information due to the need to maintain timeliness of the overall related operation. If you have verified and explained your reasons clearly to the teacher and gained his/her signed approval, you can access to the system yourself and print your absenteeism records. After the teacher notes the reason for modification and signs his/her name and date in person, you can submit the papers to undertakers of the personal counseling section to immediately assist the responsible teacher in amending the records.

Q30 What can be done if parents don’t receive the notice about their children’s warning for absenteeism, rewards and punishment, etc.?
A30First, the undertakers conclude the class’s students’ conduct credits once per week, including information of absenteeism, rewards and punishment, etc., put the students’ conduct score cumulative table outside of the class cabinet of each class, and also send one copy each to the class instructor and the dean as a counseling notice. In addition, students also can check their own relevant conduct scores in the personal counseling information system at all times.
Second, after concluding the recorded information in regards to absenteeism, rewards and punishment, etc, we will inform parents whose children’s scores are below 68 with the conduct early warning notice by letter generally based on the addresses from the student database of the registration section of the Teaching Affairs Office. If a student has changed his/her postal address, please enter the information system of teaching affairs to modify the student’s basic information.
Third, if the letter has been returned, there will be a specially-assigned person to send the letter in person to all the department offices for signing on behalf of the class instructor, and the instructor can counsel students to improve their study situation with this opportunity and further encourage students to modify their parents’ postal address or information.

Q32Does a group asking for a public leave of absence need to obtain the course teacher’s signature?

A34Leave for a private affair is also required for pre-planned matters, thus needing application in advance. However if due to an individual temporary situation, the leave application shall be finished within 3 days.

Q35 Is it necessary to attach proof for sick leave?
A35Because students occasionally get ill, on the principle of caring for students’ health and preventing their parents’ worries, we suggest that students see a doctor to make sure that they are in good health. If the illness is not serious, students just need to have a rest by themselves. Since school hours are staff working hours, we suggest that students go to the health center to rest, and have the school nurses of the health center stamp the leave paper as proof that the student had been resting at the health center.

Q36What can I do if I have a problem or comment about the conduct information in the system?
A36Students can review information in regards to asking for leave, rewards and punishment, absenteeism, doing good works to offset improper behavior, etc. If any problem is found, students are welcome to contact the personal counseling section of the Student Affairs Office or dial school extension 1322# for assistance.

Q38Will bereavement leave be included in exam cutting?
A38Yes, students are able to express their grief, loss and remembrance through bereavement leave, so it will not be deducted from the conduct score. Q39How should I ask for leave for labor education?
A39 First, the sports room is responsible for labor education. If students only ask for leave for labor education but exclude the leave application for general courses, in addition to consideration of labor education class management, it may allow students to avoid labor education work. Therefore, asking for leave for single and group labor education, in addition to the need of instructors or a dean to verify and sign the paper according to student leave application regulations, students shall send the paper to the sports room for approval. If there is any leave application problem related to labor education, please also contact the sports room in person or dial extension 1332# for assistance.
Second, in order to avoid the trouble of going back and forth for students bringing the paper to the Administration Building and the sports room, students may apply for leave of general courses plus labor education. In addition to the need of signatures of instructors or a dean according to student leave application regulations, students shall have drillmasters or team leaders of the personal counseling section verify and sign the paper. After one week and after gaining the approval and signature from student affairs officers, students shall send the paper to the personal counseling section.

Q40When asking for leave online, how can I fix an input error or cancel the application?

Third, students and their joint guarantors are required to have R.O.C. nationality and residence registration. For guarantors, such as parents, only one parent must have R.O.C. nationality and residence registration; both parents that share the duty to pay tax can be guarantors.

Q59What will happen if loan application students have an overdue payment?
A59 A student loan is not a gift fund that the government gives freely to students, nor a welfare benefit; rather, it is just a type of preferential loan. Although the amount of the loan is small, the severity of impact on credit is the same as that of general loans if the repayment is overdue or refused to be paid. Therefore, students with loans should pay attention to the scheduled time for payments. For non-performing loans, the bank will lodge a lawsuit for claims to loan students and their joint guarantors, and send the overdue records of borrowers and guarantors to the Joint Credit Information Center for filing; they will then be listed as customers with bad financial credit, and the list is open to financial organizations to check. The records of customers with bad financial credit will be sent to the Joint Credit Information Center for filing, and the customers will be considered adverse deal customers available to be checked by financial organizations. The bad records not only have an effect on the credit of loan students and their joint guarantors, but also cause the problem that those with bad credit records may be refused to apply for checks, credit cards, or other loans from banks. In a word, overdue payments can seriously affect future credit access with financial organizations and their career development, so please take your responsibility to pay seriously.

A62 This is absolutely not true! Everyone inevitably encounters a situation in which we do not know what to do, such as disliking out current major, lifestyle differences among roommates, a friend’s distance due to a new boyfriend or girlfriend, fights between parents and divorce, confusion about confessing to the person you like, a cheating partner, lack of money and the desire to find a part-time job, life’s meaning and purpose, and all of the other confusing problems we encounter throughout the course of our life. During these times, we would like to talk with others about the problems we have and also need others’ suggestions or assistance in making a decision. You can choose your friends or relatives to chat; at school, your instructors or trusted course teachers can act as good counselors. You can also ask for guidance from counselors of the consultation group to help you to organize your thoughts to plan your next action.

Q63 When can I go to counselors to chat?
A63 In general, we adopt the method of making a 50-minute appointment once a week, but this can be adjusted depending on the situation. If students have a more urgent problem, the consultation group will immediately arrange a teacher to talk with you.

Q64After getting advice from the consultation group, will our personal privacy be protected?
A64 Confidentiality is one of our moral principles, and all of the counseling information papers are confidential documents. However, exceptions may be made in the case that someone’s life, freedom, property or safety is in danger, or the law may be violated.

Q65 What role do counselors play in the interview?
A65 In fact, counselors just act as adjuvant helpers in the consultation process, and the students who receive the consultation are the protagonists. You have the right to decide what problems to talk about and how in depth, and counselors will accompany with you to deal with and face the problem and related emotions that you can’t handle on your own.

Q66 Where is the consultation group located? Which service items does it has?
A66 First, the consultation group is located on the second floor of the Administration Building. Its main service items include individual counseling, group counseling, psychological testing, book lending, special lectures, class discussions, counseling services for disabled students, student complaints, prevention education for sexual bullying/harassment or sexual assault incidents, catering fellowship applications between teachers and students, mentor business, advocacy and educational train for several students’ study progress file platform and so on.
Second, there is also a consultation room on the second floor of the dormitory in the Qinpu Building, which is decorated warmly and comfortably and offers night counseling services for boarders and students engaged in advanced studies in the promotion institution. Its hours of operation are every Monday and Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm. There is a counselor to offer night services with the night school extension 6105 or 1353.
Third, you can contact the consultation group by phone with campus extensions 1350、1351、1352、1353 or fax: 07-8062349. You can also sign online to the network path/Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism world wide web/administrative unit/student affairs office/consultation group.

Q67What activities does the consultation group hold? How can I receive the activity messages?
A67The activities held by the consultation group focus on problems that students will encounter at various development stages and the general psychological counseling knowledge that teachers and students shall have. Possible topics covered include:
First, activity themes: such as: life education, gender equality education, time management, interpersonal skills, emotional management, stress management, career planning, etc.
Second, activity manner: special lectures, workshops, award essays, reading seminars, poster or card design competitions, web games, film appreciation, community service and charity sales, etc. These activities may be carried out in various ways.
Third, publicity methods: the activity messages of the consultation group will be posted on the campus information web’s latest announcements page; the notice will be sent to the cabinet in every class; tutors, the class representative or counseling unit chief will publish the activity messages; and students can personally go to the consultation group for registration. Before activities, we will send messages via e-mail or post posters on each school notice board.

Q68 Does the consultation group offer class counseling or informal discussions? What types or themes are offered?
A68 The consultation group offers at least two types of class counseling: one is class discussion, such as learning counseling, life education, gender relationships, stress management, etc., which can be applied for; the other is the general way that many classes constantly use-group psychological tests. The consultation group has various professional psychological tests, including self-understanding, career planning, interpersonal relationships, health, character, habit scales, etc. After tutors or a counseling unit chief contact the consultation group, they can use a class meeting or class time without courses to carry out the tests. The consultation group also offers individual psychological test services and welcomes tutors to encourage students in need to contact the consultation group. Willing students may also go on their own to the consultation group to apply for individual counseling.

Q69 If the school knows that I have depression or a mental illness, will I be made to drop out?
A69 The school has always been a field for students’ study and focuses on protecting students’ right to receive an education. At the same time, the consultation group gives assistance depending on students’ status, including keeping contact with their parents, assisting students in medical treatment, paying attention to whether students follow the doctor’s advice to take medicine, helping classes to keep an open mind with peers, and preventing suicide and self-injurious behaviors. If students have good academic performance and quality of life in school, we will not recommend that the student drops out. If you find you need assistance, please seek assistance. In addition to confiding in teachers, students can go to the consultation group to talk with a counseling teacher. We are pleased to accompany you through your difficulties.

Q70I have a manual for mental and physical disabilities. What items of counseling and assistance can the consultation group or school offer?
A70Our school consultation group offers services to assist students’ applications and life or study aid applications, transition services, life guidance, etc. On the other hand, the extracurricular activities guidance section also offers help with applications for a tuition and miscellaneous fees waiver for disabled students. The above subsidiaries will ease your financial burdens, so please make more use of them. Disabled students should take the initiative to keep counselors informed of their hardships in both life and study. Counselors, tutors or other relevant staff will help you enjoy your college life in Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism.

Q71 What is sexual harassment?
A71Behavior or speech expressing or implying sexual themes that cause uncomfortably subjective feelings in a person are considered sexual harassment. This includes telling obscene jokes, spreading erotic pictures, touching the special body parts (especially the chest, buttocks, thigh and the other important parts), voyeurism, videotaping in secrecy, words of gender discrimination (for instance: you girls needn’t study, it is ok for you to bear children; say to boys: you are womanish), contempt to different sexual orientations (why be gay for nothing!?), the offer or threat of sexual transactions (if you date with me, I will give you some benefits, or…), etc.

Q72 What is “campus sexual assault or sexual harassment”? Does the school have a mechanism for counseling, prevention, and control?
A72First, “campus sexual assault and sexual harassment” refers to sexual assault or harassment happening within the same school or at different schools, of which one side is the school principal, a teacher, a staff member, a worker or a student, and the other is a student studying in the school or receiving further promotion education. Namely, both sides belong to the school, and one side must be a student; even if from a different school, the student’s case can also be attributed to the scale of campus sexual assault and harassment.
Second, our school provides “gender equality education and its work implementation approaches” and “prevention rules for sexual assault or harassment”, which include campus safety rules, notices for teaching and interpersonal relationship interaction on or off school, a processing mechanism for campus sexual assaults or harassment, procedures and remedy methods, etc. Our school’s “gender equality education committee” plans as a whole to construct a mechanism for counseling, prevention, and management to address the issue of campus sexual assaults or harassment.

Q73 If I am the victim of a sexual assault or sexual harassment, what should I do?
A73 If it is a case of sexual harassment, do not wash your body and go immediately to the police station to file a report and allow them to collect related evidence. If you feel scared, ask someone you trust to accompany you. If the incident occurred on campus, you can also report it to the campus safety center; the complaint hotline is 07-8034727, or you can fill out an application form for gender equality case in Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (available on the website of the gender equality committee for downloading) and e-mail it to gender@mail.live.nkuht.tw. After the campus safety center confirms the case of campus gender equality, then send it to the gender equality education committee to be settled. The whole process is confidential in order to protect your privacy.
After the “Gender Equality Education Committee” has dealt with the case, it will be turned over to the experts, scholars who have professional survey knowledge and who are responsible for establishing the investigation team to carry out the survey; when necessary, they will also provide the victim with psychological counseling, legal advice, homework assistance, economic assistance and other assistance that the gender equality education committee thinks important. Current sexual assaults and harassment cases are managed by the laws, and you can refer to “relevant regulations” on our website for the gender equality education committee, as well as consult our provisions about prevention of sexual assaults or harassment for further information. In order to gain justice and prevent others from being victims, please find the courage to expose such issues, and feel confident that there are many people who want to help you. If you have any questions, please contact 07-8060505-1351 or 1353 for a consultation.

A74 Of course, pregnant students can continue their studies: (1) according to the school’s leave rules, there is a clear provision for maternity (before) leave, including before and after delivery, as well as if an abortion is had; at the same time, if the spouse of a student gives birth to a child, the students also have the right to accompany them; (2) according to our university constitution or professional training constitution, there are clear relevant regulations for maintaining the rights of pregnant students; (3) we practice a barrier-free teaching and learning environment; you can ask for help about counseling for defend education knowledge from the guard protection group in the Student Affairs Office on your own or via tutors, or you can turn to the consultation group for assistance and consultation relating to pregnancy psychology.

Q75I love a teacher, and this teacher loves me. Are teacher-student relationships permitted?
A75 According to the seventh provision in the rules of campus sexual assault or harassment, when teachers carry out teaching, guidance, training, evaluation, management, and counseling or provide students with an opportunity to work, teachers cannot develop a relationship which violates their professional ethics. Namely, if the teacher allows the relationship to affect students’ scores, performance assessment, offers of work opportunities, etc., the love between a teacher and a student is forbidden; in fact, teachers should actively avoid relationships with their students in all circumstances.

Q76What is the “student complaint approaches”? Under what circumstance can students lodge a complaint? How can I appeal a decision?
A76First, we have “student complaint approaches” and an “appraisal committee for student complaints,” both of which have the aim to offer a channel for student complaints and to protect students’ legal rights and interests. The student complaint system belongs to the scale of student relief, which is different from feedback. If it is general feedback, please use administrative channels for help, such as the dean, teaching affairs office, student affairs office, and other relevant departments. When you believe that the school’s punishments or other measures or resolutions violate laws or are improper and harm your rights, you can fill in a detailed appeal with a revision form to put forward specific facts (go to the student affairs office website to download the student complaint form in “downloadable forms”) from 10 days to 30 days from the time when you received the relevant punishment, measure or resolution, and attach the relevant information to appeal to the appraisal committee for a student complaint.
Second, the current location for accepting and handling these complaint forms is a window in the consultation group in the student affairs office.

Q77What is the procedure for students in the day division to apply for dining friendship between teachers and students?
A77 First, go to the consultation group to get an application form for dining friendship between teachers and students, or go to the student affairs office website to download the application form in the downloadable forms section.

Q78:(E-Portfolio)?  How do students use the digital learning progress document platform (E-Portfolio)?
A78 Our digital learning progress document platform (E-Portfolio) has been completed within the website of http://efolio.nkuht.edu.tw/DF/, in which students can login in with their student numbers and their password for entering the campus information website. Students can enter relevant progress information at any time (course, certification, practice and society activities, etc.) and can print their personal resume on their own. Q80 How can the interaction between teachers and students be promoted and the attitude between them improved?
A80Teachers can use spare time to carry out group counseling or individual interviews at least once each semester in order to learn more about every student’s family environment and individual learning differences. Teachers can make a record of the interview and save it. If a teacher needs the “record form for teachers’ interview”, they can download the form in the downloadable forms section on the student affairs office website as a future counseling reference. The following is simple information that you should know:
First, appropriate topics for the gatherings between instructors and students include:
(A) After winter and summer holidays, share personal learning experience. Learn what is the living arrangement and plans of the instructors and students; what did they do on their holidays? Also, learn the status of courses that the instructor will teach and students will attend in this term and offer learning experiences.
(B) During the semester, learn how things are going for instructors and students. What have they been busy doing since the beginning of the semester? Have they met any problems when preparing for exams? Is it possible to investment in your social life and courses together? How are they getting along with roommates? How are they going about their internship hunt?
(C) When the term is nearly over, ask instructors and students about their stress adjustment. How is their academic status? How is their time management? How is their report writing? How do they take the exams and answer questions?
Second, the methods for instructor-student gatherings include:
(A) Dinner club
(B) Afternoon tea for mood exchange
(C) Teacher-student individual counseling
Third, appropriate conversation topics between instructors and freshmen include:

Q81How should a supervisor handle emergencies related to ethics and laws?
A81During the process of teaching, teachers have the obligation to protect students from harm to both their body and life that may be caused by teaching activities. If a teacher can forecast a certain potential danger, he/she has the obligation to take special precautions or send a warning to the Administration Department. Furthermore, teachers also have the obligation to take care of students and be attentive to notice the accident after it occurs.

Q82Students who turn to supervisors for help usually ask supervisors to keep a secret. How should supervisors balance confidentiality standards with whether they should notify students’ parents?
A82Their obligation is to keep the student’s secret, which is an important element to gain a student’s trust. However, some cases may concern the student’s safety or affect his/her life, such as committing suicide, premarital pregnancy, abortion, sexual assault, contraction of AIDS, sexual harassment, intention of infringement or to hurt others, drug abuse, etc. Consequently, supervisors face a dilemma whether they should keep the student’s secret or disclose it to either the Student Counseling Section or students’ parents. There are no specified principles for supervisors for handling these kinds of issues, but they should observe the following practices:
Inform concerned people to handle the case and let students know that excessive confidentiality is not helpful for the situation; your best to provide relevant information of advantages and disadvantages rather than your value judgment.
Professional help can be available if you inform the Student Counseling Section.
Inform the student that keeping secrets has some limitations and their safety takes priority over their right to privacy.
Before informing others, supervisors should get the student’s permission, including who to inform and how.
Respect parents’ right of guardianship if the student is less than 20 years old. For instance, Article 9 of the Eugenic Health Law formulates that abortion of juveniles has to be approved by parents
The student’s best interest and welfare is the basic principle in handling any case.

Q83How should supervisors avoid misunderstandings of sexual harassment while teaching?
A83Physical contact is usually a good way to show love and care but is also usually misunderstood as sexual harassment. The following four questions can help you avoid sexual harassment misunderstandings and problems:
Would you still act like this if your spouse were near you?
Would you be willing to see others act in the same way that you plan to?
Would you be afraid of your actions becoming material for newspapers or TV news?
Do both students and teachers share the same rights during the process of interaction?

Q84 If there is a student with a disability in class, what kind of services and assistances should instructors offer?
A84 It is recommended that instructors treat all students equally to the best of their abilities and provide disabled students with the opportunity for personal growth and learning, in addition to adjusting the teaching method or assess class standards according to the types of students’ disabilities and different degrees; if there are other needs, they can be referred to the consultation group. At the beginning of semester, instructors shall remind the students with disability manuals to register in the consultation group. Because the Ministry of Education provides disabled students with abundant resources (such as: student application assistance, life or learning aid application, transfer services, scholarship and subsidy aids, etc.), the consultation group can introduce these to students for their use. These are part of their important rights, and please remind students about these resources.
If you have any other requirements, you can also refer to the consultation group. Disabled students need applications for “assisting students”, and we will provide these assisting students with work-study payments to help disabled students learn more smoothly. The relevant application form can be downloaded in the downloadable forms section on the student affairs office website under “assisting student application form”.

Q85If students are unfortunately subjected to a sexual assault or sexual harassment and suffer a physical or mental injury, how can instructors offer assistance?
A85Our “Gender Equality Education Committee” is responsible for dealing with campus sexual assaults or harassment. It is recommended that, in addition to the advice offered by instructors, such cases are referred to the committee for diversified and professional assistance. After the “Gender Equality Education Committee” has dealt with the case, it will be turned over to the experts, scholars who have professional survey knowledge and will be responsible for establishing the investigation team to carry out the survey; when necessary, they may also provide the victim with psychological counseling, legal advice, homework assistance, economic assistance and other assistance that the gender equality education committee thinks important. Currently the undertaker of our “Gender Equality Education Committee” is a consultation group in the student affairs office.

Q86If a student is pregnant, what do instructors pay attention to when giving counseling and assistance?
A86 Instructors can assist students in the following ways:
First, maintain the student’s right to learn her options; ask about the relevant regulations regarding temporary absence from school and leave for caring pregnant students in the teaching affairs office and student affairs office, and whether there is any remedy measure for teaching. Find out whether the student’s pregnancy is unexpected, and obtain responses from the other relevant important people about whether to offer the student corresponding support. Go to the Ministry of the Interior’s  help website aimed at unmarried or pregnant girls under age www.257085.org.tw (0800-25-7085:love me, please help me)  to learn related information. This can help students build the correct contact between male and female people and safe sex principles, as well as assist students with handling the pressure suffered from an unexpected pregnancy and find important people for communication.
Second, remember to apply our barrier-free teaching environment; refer the student to the guard protection group for counseling of protection teaching knowledge and refer her to the consultation group, which can offer psychological counseling and assistance related to pregnancy.
Q87Are teacher-student romantic relationships permitted?
A87According to the seventh provision in the rules of campus sexual assault or harassment, when teachers carry out teaching, guidance, training, evaluation, management, and counseling or provide students with an opportunity to work, teachers cannot develop a relationship which violates their professional ethics. A99:For insurance, students who are under the conditions that they get injured (for example: burn, fracture, injuries, car accident,  etc.) or suffer from serious illnesses and must be hospitalized or have an operation (excluding disease general outpatient service), please wait for a while after the whole treatment process, then ask your physician to provide you with a "certificate of diagnosis", bring all "medical expense receipts" to the health center to file a "student safety insurance claim application" or directly to the school’s website - - > administrative unit -- - > student affairs office -- - > form download -- - > health care group - > students in safety insurance application download application (a total of 2 pages), then fill in and send it to the health center to apply for the student insurance claim. (Or, prepare relevant documents and send them by mail to the health center).

Q100:What files are needed to apply for personal safety insurance? Will the copies of these files be accepted?
A100:The required files are listed as follows:
First, fill out the group insurance application for settlement of insurance claims. (It is available in health centers or can be downloaded from the school’s health care website).
Second, you need a Doctor’s diagnosis certificate (copies should be sealed by the hospital. If you treat your disease in different hospitals, you need to apply for certificates in special lines.)
Third, copies of the Diagnosis certificate opened by a hospital or clinic can be used here only if they are sealed by the hospital and “identified with the original”.
Fourth, the Medical treatment charge list (medical receipt) copy, which should be sealed on the charge chapter by the hospital or clinic.
Fifth, the claim application can be typed by yourself or a photocopy, but there must be a signature in the beneficiary place (people under 20 years old must ask their parents to sign as an agent).

Q102:Why is a copy of the passbook required when applying for students’ safety insurance?
A102:This is required because manually filling in Deposit book account and Photostat copy of the debit card can easily cause errors due to incomplete material, especially regarding the branch, sub-branch, branch's name, or branch number, which will cause a delay in the remittance. In order to avoid this, please be sure to attach the applicant’s copy of the passbook cover.

Q103:I was injured and accepted medical treatment a long time ago; can I still apply for personal safety insurance?
A103: It is valid for 2 years from the day that you are injured or fall ill.

Q104:Can we apply for personal safety insurance when we catch a cold?
A104:The insurance company does not accept claims for the cost of seeing a doctor caused by disease. However, you can make a claim when you are hospitalized or get surgery caused by a disease. (Detailed information can be found in the Ping An Insurance guarantee content via internet through the school’s website-> administrative unit-> office of student affairs-> health center business-> student's safety insurance-> Ping An Insurance guarantee content via internet.)

Q105: Can we apply for safety insurance when we get a small wound or go to a clinic because of a fall?
A105:You can file a claim for accidents that require outpatient services, emergency services, surgery or hospitalization.

Q106: Can we apply for safety insurance during the suspension period?
A106:School censuses remain for students during suspension and delay periods, but you have alternatives whether to join Safety Insurance in the student group or not. Students who continue to have the insurance are required to pay the school bank for the insurance, the Brace Branch of Commercial Bank, within one month from the date when school starts since the cashier section sends the billing payment. These students are required to pay for the insurance in their province's designated bank branches before the deadline. Overdue payments will not be accepted and insured, and the student will be considered uninsured during the suspension period in each term in the future.

Q107: How does the school supervise the food quality of the teachers’ and students’ canteen?
A107:Except for takeout, the canteen is completely forbidden from using disposable tableware in order to provide the teachers and students with a healthy and safe dining environment. Hygienic supervision work is carried out regularly and food samples are retained daily and prepared for review. In addition, a supervision group formed by the health protection group and teachers with food hygiene HACCP carry out inspections twice a week. The health protection group and dining hall cooperate to improve campus dining according to any suggestions made and save the date of canteen health management checklist for future reference.

Q108:How does the school carry out recycling?
A108:There is no recycling bin on campus, so students are strongly suggested to directly collect garbage and place it in the resource recovery field, categorizing the garbage according to garbage classification rules. Advocacy methods are as follows:
First, cultural and educational activities related to environmental education will be held from time to time in order to intensify students’ knowledge of environmental education, as well as to encourage students to readily protect the environment.
Second, our goal is to strengthen students’ concepts and practices of resource recycling and reuse by coordinating such lessons with the curriculum, exercises, community activities, and so on, aiming not only to guide students to develop the correct concepts of resource recycling and reuse, but also to then reduce their waste production.
